Learning Spanish as a foreign language is structured according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), the international standard used to describe language proficiency and establish learning objectives.
The CEFR divides learning into six progressive levels, grouped into three main categories: basic user (A1–A2), independent user (B1–B2), and proficient user (C1–C2). Each level involves developing new communicative skills, expanding vocabulary, and improving the ability to interact in personal, academic, and professional contexts.
The hours required to progress between levels are guidelines and represent accumulated guided learning time. Actual progress may vary depending on prior experience, exposure to the language, frequency of study, and the student's personal goals.
